Build A DVR - Conquer The World?
You bet! Building my own DVR or HTPC (home theater PC) has been the most liberating experience in all my life. It has freed me from cable bills, must-watch show times, worries about missing a recording, piles of DVDs, and racks of equipment. My homemade DVD has created: endless exciting stories, wowed visitors, a simpler life, and the freedom to watch what I want, when I want, and how I want. Building a DVR is not just “worth the time”, I believe it is essential to the modern living room.
Who?
I’m a veteran DVR builder, tinkerer, and fixer. I constructed my first homemade DVR as a Christmas gift for my fiance (she LOVED the gift - yes my wife is that cool). Like a phoenix from the flame, her puttering PC was reborn into a media monster. Since then, there’s little I’ve thought about except maximizing the number of amazing things a PC turned DVR can do. In three years, I’ve yet to hit a limit!
So What Can I Expect Here
A Positive Place
I know that each DVR is as unique as its owners and there truly is no right answer in this world. On this site you’ll never hear me say that your soundcard sucks or that some remote is useless. You make your own choices, I’ll provide information based on my experiences and the experiences of those I know.
A Place for Beginners
This site is welcoming to people starting their homemade DVR journey. You won’t drown in acronyms and jargon. Nor will you be left out if you’ve never opened your PC or installed a new piece of software. Believe me, you can do it!
