Why build your own DVR?
So why should you build your own DVR (or Tivo) when your cable company can loan you one for a few bucks a month?
Sure you save by not paying a monthly fee, and you can upgrade easily for little money, but the real reason to build your own Tivo is that it will be as unique as you!
For example: I love TV shows, so my Tivo is focused on storing and organizing my family’s favorite tv shows (The Office and Arrested Development, by the way!).
Some people are passionate about movies and store all their DVDs on their DVR. You can set up your DVR to help you manage your movie collection.
Love games? Your DVR can be designed around running emulated classics or cutting edge pc games. Make your living room a home arcade!
