If you’re using a Snapstream Firefly, Firefly mini, Streamzap or MCE remote and want to customize the commands then I’ve got the answer for you. LM Keymap is a freeware program that lets you customize your remote based on the program you’re using. It’s super powerful and pretty easy to use. Now I can finally get iTunes to switch to full screen mode using my remote! ;)


I really found this program useful when trying to make VLC my default DVD player for Mediaportal. VLC completely ignores my Firefly Mini - but by using LM Keymap, I was able to coax some functionality out of this awesome media player.

Profiles

You create “profiles” for each program you want your remote to work with. For example, I have VLC, iTunes, and emulator profiles set up. There’s also a catch-all default profile for everything else. Now, if you donate (any amount through Paypal) you get access to profiles other users have created and uploaded. Pretty awesome feature and definitely made me hit the donate button.

Capabilities and Shortcomings

With LM Keymap, you can do more than emulate keypresses. You can control your mouse, send windows commands, play sound files, and so on. It’s all intuitive, but takes a few more clicks to accomplish things than I’d like. Another reason to donate and get access to pre-made profiles.
